July 30, 2016: Die Hard Poker League 2016/17 Season
Preparations
Hello everyone,
Well August is here shortly
and it is time to start organizing the next version of the Die Hard Poker
League.
1. Schedule
Below are my proposed dates
for our 12th incarnation of the Die Hard Poker League. Please look closely at
the dates and if you have any conflicts, especially if they may apply to
multiple people, let me know and I may alter them. Tried to avoid any conflicts
with holidays etc. The first date is solid so you can start planning around
that one.
1. Saturday September 10th
2. Friday, September 30th
3. Friday, October 21st
4. Friday, November 18th
5. Friday, December 2nd
6. Friday, January 13th
7. Friday, January 27th
8. Friday, February 10th
9. Friday, March 3rd
10. Friday, March 31st
11. League Final Friday,
April 7th, Sunday Apr 9
2. Membership
Also it’s is that time again.
If you know you are joining the league again or for the first time, now is the
time to let me know so I can start accumulating the list of returnees. Please
email me and I will add you to the list of confirmed league members. Also if
you know you are not going to join please let me know that as well.
3. Rule Changes
Also officially requesting
any rule change suggestions at this time. The next 4 weeks is the ONLY time I
take suggestions or consider rule changes so don't miss this opportunity.
a. One thing we will do this
year is make the league fees in USD instead of CAD to insulate us from changes
in the exchange rate. That means you are responsible for $500 USD. The tourney buyin will remain at $50 CAD.
b. We will be making the
League Final a slower structure for the final 9 by stopping play shortly after
making the money and playing out the final 5-9 on a separate day. This will
allow people to have room to play when playing down to the big prize.
Looking forward to seeing you
all again real soon.
July 17, 2016: Rob Sims unable to cash ME
While Rob was
unable to cash the main event he did have an amazing experience including
getting his photo with Phil Ivey. He made it into Day 2 but was unable to make
it far enough to get to the money.
July 10, 2016: Rob Sims to play Main Event instead of
Dylan Ruocco
Due to an
unfortunate incident Dylan Ruocco is unable to play
the Main Event this year and we are instead sending our runner-up Rob Sims down
to play. I don’t think it is up to me to provide any more details then that
about Dylan’s situation. Those that know him can talk to him in person. That
being said we wish Rob the best of luck. Rob will start the Main Event tomorrow
at 11AM. This is the third of 3 flights. I will keep everyone updated as much
as possible tomorrow. They start with 50,000 chips so we are all hoping Rob can
make it thru Day 1 and chip up a little bit.
July 10, 2016: Rob Sims, Ryan McDonald, Chris Fraser
and Dan Molatore Strike Out
Well it has
come down to this. With the above 4 all striking out we have yet to have a
single winner make a Day 2. Our last attempt was by Dan Molatore.
He started out poorly going from 5k to 1500 chips in the first level, but he
ground all the way back to nearly 7,000 chips before ultimately falling near
dinner time.
Ryan McDonald
had a much better start in the Monster Stack building his 15k starting up to
40k by end of level 3. He went card dead in the middle stages but still had a
healthy 22k at dinner break. He ended up getting it in with AA vs 88 with one
level left in the night and busted when his villain flopped a set.
Rob Sims also
played the Monster Stack. Early on he flopped two pair with AK and lost a big
pot to a turned set of 8’s (sounds familiar). He battled hard for 5 more hours
before shoving 9 BBs with AT and getting called by KJ. It was not to be as the
villain ended up with trip jacks and Rob was shown the door.
I don’t have
much in the way of details of Chris Frasers tourney but he did make it to
dinner break with 20 BBs before busting short of the end of Day 1.
So no luck and
just the Main Event left to play.
June 23, 2016: Jason Nadeau no Luck
Jason Nadeau
was the latest of our winners to play. He played the Monster Stack on Friday.
He built his chips up to a 30k double starting stack but went out an hour after
dinner break and did not advance to Day 2.
Roman Pereyaslavsky also played the Monster Stack. He went out
early in the day when he got it all in preflop with
AA vs KK. K on the flop and it was over.
Potential Dates
for next DHPL Season:
1. Saturday September 10th
2. Friday, September 30th
3. Friday, October 21st
4. Friday, November 18th
5. Friday, December 2nd
6. Friday, January 13th
7. Friday, January 27th
8. Friday, February 10th
9. Friday, March 3rd
10. Friday, March 31st
11. League Final Friday, April 7th
Also looking at
throwing in an extra non-league tourney on December 16th for $200 buyin.
Also August 12th
will be a $200 buyin tourney as well.
June 23, 2016: Mike Twitchell
Does Not Cash
The Week that Was:
Mike Twitchell
entered the $1,000 Seniors Event at the WSOP last Friday. He was able to
navigate a starting stack up and down for over 5 hours, He got a triple up
while holding QQ to get back above starting but eventually busted out shortly
before dinner.
Colin Genge and Brian Taylor
also played the Seniors event but neither were able to make it through the day.
I myself played the $1500
Limit Omaha Hi Lo on the Thursday. Ran good early building up a nice stack that
actually put me in the top 10 leaderboard on wsop.com for a while but lost most
of it in two monster hands near the end of the night and busted in the last 40
minutes prior to end of Day 1.
Upcoming Play by Die Hard
Players:
Coming up this weekend we
have Rob Sims ($1500), Ryan McDonald ($1000), Jason Nadeau ($940) all playing
in the $1500 buy in Event #41 Monster Stack. Jason likely playing on Friday and
the other two on Saturday.
Also this weekend Chris
Fraser will be playing in Sundays Event #44 $1000 buyin
for the league.
Playing on their own in the
Monster Stack is Ben Walker, Johnny Dai, Roman Pereyaslavsky,
Dean Hilts, Marie Hilts and Dylan Ruocco who is using
it as a tuneup to his Main Event run in a few weeks.
Huge representation in the Monster Stack for the DHPL.
Good luck to everyone down
there.
June 13, 2016: Andrew and Ramiro no Luck
Both Andrew Krywaniuk and Ramiro Dominguez played the $1,000 NLH Event
#16. Unfortunately, neither of them made it through the day. Andrew made it
through to about 3pm. He was never able to build a stack and busted out in
Level 4. Ramiro made it another 2 hours busting in about 800th of the 2242
entries in Level 6. He was getting short and shipped AQs from middle position
and the SB who was also short called it off with J6 and hit his Jack. Good try
boys.
Andrew did cash the deepstack yesterday finishing in 96th place for a small
cash.
Next up is Mike Twitchell later this week.
June 11, 2016: No Success in Early Going for DHPL
Jason Nadeau took two shots
at the Colossus with no success, and played half of them for the league meaning
the league is 0 for $560 of buyins so far. Fortunately we have another $18,440 worth of buyins to go.
I myself played the Colossus
to no avail as well. Made it thru 3.5 hours of play before an aggressive small
blind shoved 13 Bigs into me preflop.
I looked down at 8c8s and snapped him off. He showed 96o having just the one
over. Flop came 9TJccc, meaning I was now behind but had 17 outs. None came and
I was gone.
Jason Nadeau did play very
well on his trip though cashing 5 of 9 daily deepstacks
(63rd, 39th, 39th, 62nd, 182nd
for $397, $199, $619, $644, $383) in fields of 500-2000 players, which is an
amazing cash ratio. In one those tourneys he played on the same table with Kal Kooner who also cashed in
that same event (59th for $481). So good to have some of our players
cashing.
Tomorrow we have both Ramiro
Dominquez and Andrew Krywaniuk set to play the $1,000
NLH Event #17, putting another $2,000 of league money at play. Hope they can
play and run well.
After them we have Mike Twitchell set to play the Seniors event on June 17th.
For non league-winners we have Colin Genge and Brian
Taylor set to play the Seniors this coming weekend and I myself will be
heading back Thursday to play the $1,500 Limit Omaha Hi Lo.
Good luck all and anyone that
heads down please send me a text or email with any results you’ve had.

April 9, 2016: Dylan Ruocco outdraws Rob Sims to Win WSOP Main Event Seat
Sorry
for the delay in posting but a huge congratulations to
our 9 winners and in particular Dylan Ruocco who won
the grand prize.
Congrats
to Dylan who won the League Final and will be playing in this years $10,000
World Series of Poker Main Event!!!
Also
congrats to our other winners who won packages and to Rob Sims and Jason Nadeau
who both came agonizingly close to winning the Main Event seat. 3 handed play
was amazing with lead changes left right and center. Rob Sims had a chance to
close it out with 99 vs 88 all in preflop before
Dylan ran out quads. The final hand was also dramatic. A massive setup hand had
Dylan with AQss vs Robs JJ. Door card was a Jack
giving Rob a massive lead but the board ran out three spaded and Dylan won the
tourney. That pot had 400k of the 500k chips in play so it really was for the
tournament. Final board was Js9c4s6s7d!!!!!!
Lance
was the unfortunate bubble boy after losing the shortstack
battle with Ramiro who at one point had 7k chips and was on the big blind of
6k. Andrew did not make the top 9 falling in 13th after getting into some setup
hands. Big early run by Mike Twitchell who had a
massive stack with 12-13 left ended when he ran into some big hands against
Jason Nadeau. In particular going to war preflop 99
vs QQ of Nadeau for a massive pot. Ryan McDonald also ran up a big stack and
was able to parlay that into a seat.
Ryan
McDonald who started with 5k and Rob Sims starting with 6k in chips were the
only two players to book seats that started with under 10,000 chips on the
night. Good work.

Dylan Ruocco - $10,000 Main Event Seat

March 23, 2016: Michelle
Owen wins and Andrew Krywaniuk locks up League Points
win
Michelle
Owen won Event #10 beating Ramiro Dominguez headsup
to become the second ever female to win a DHPL event. With 5 people remaining a
chop was agreed to between Duc Ngo, Michelle Owen,
Ramiro Dominguez, Dylan Ruocco and Brent Senko.
Brent, Ramiro and Michelle (playing for Melissa White) would battle it out for
the points as Duc and Dylan’s chips came out of play.
Of
the 6 league members that came into Event #10 without points only Ashley Samborski was able to finish in the points. He earned 2,000
chips and a seat at the final.
The
finishers were: (coming soon)
February 20, 2016: Andrew Krywaniuk outlasts Darren Kennedy in biggest field of DHPL
history
Right
on the heels of a 101 entry field came a new record 103 entry field in Event
#9. It came down to headsup between Darren and
Andrew. Andrew went into headsup with a 3 to 2 chiplead and would never relinquish it, pounding me down
until my A3 fell to his J8 aipf for just a quarter of
the chips in play.
The
night was full of quads as we saw AA lost to KK preflop
when KK flopped quads, another player flopped quad 6’s and James Logan turned
quad Aces at one point. Along with a record number of entries we also had a
record last longer with 40 people entering. 7 players chopped it up and then
Darren and Chris Fraser chopped the remaining $250.
The
night saw a lot of the points leaders battling to take the chip lead from
incumbent Mike Menkes, with Chris Fraser, Dylan Ruocco and Jason Nadeau all threatening to take the lead,
but it was Andrew Krywaniuk with his tourney win that
ultimately passed Mike. While there is only one event to go there are 10
players within striking distance of Andrew still so the final event should be
an interesting one.
The
finishers were: Andrew Krywaniuk ($1,400), Darren
Kennedy ($1,000), Devan Cassidy ($700, non-league), Bill Robin ($500), Chris
Fraser ($400), Jason Nadeau ($300), Ramiro Domiguez
($200), Duc Ngo ($150, non-league), Brent Senko
($150), Cory Breland ($100, non-league), Jon Pingol ($100, rebuy), Chris Nishi ($100), Eiten Even, Mike Farnese, Lily Ngo (non-league), Doug Crone
(non-league), Deepak Bhasin (non-league), Kal Kooner, Paul Deol, Dylan Ruocco, Trevor Massey
(non-league), Elton Ngan, James Logan (non-league), Rik Rohrback,
Bobby Lam (non-league), Ed Sue (non-league, playing for TJ Johnston), Brant
Taylor (rebuy), Bruce Lawson, Bobby Gagnon (non-league, playing for Dean
Hilts).
February 2, 2016: Dan Molatore Defeats Mike Bigelow in 101 Entry Field for Event
#8 Title
Mike
Bigelow retained his title of most successful player to never win a DHPL title
as although he took a chip lead into headsup play he
was not able to close the tourney. Dan Molatore took
the title and is now just 1,800 points behind Mike Menkes
for the season points lead.
A
couple more players got off the no-point list as Colin Genge and Richard Wardroper both pointed for the first time this year. With
so many players in action on Friday we ended up having two full cash games with
both games having waitlists.
The
finishers were: Dan Molatore ($1,170), Mike Bigelow
($1,170), Andrew Krywaniuk ($660), Dave Sims ($500,
rebuy), Brant Taylor ($400), Cory Breland ($300,
rebuy, non-league), Bruce Lawson ($200, rebuy), Robert Brechin
($150), David Slater ($100, non-league), Trevor Massey ($100, non-league), Jon
Deanna ($100, non-league), Darren Kennedy ($100), Scott Brynen,
Tony Macedo, Everett Wicklund
(rebuy), Jon Pingol, Ben Walker, Chris Fraser, Kevin
Schieber (non-league), Chris Nishi, TJ Johnston, Garry Juvelin,
Richard Wardroper, Mark Scott (non-league, playing
for Bill Robins), Sean Cammack (non-league), Colin
Genge, Roger Grosset (rebuy), Elton Ngan.
January 21, 2016: Mike Menkes wins his 4th Die Hard Event, beating Guy Bottin
Mike
Menkes outlast Guy Bottin
in a one hand headsup battle after chopping the cash
for $1000 each. Chipstacks were even and blinds were
15k/30k when Mike opened to 130k. Guy wasted little time moving all in for
about 450k effective with KQo. Mike made the call
with A4 and held throughout the flop, turn and river to take down his
record-tying 4th career Die Hard event.
Also
of note in this event was Ramiro Dominguez recording his first ever cash in 33
tries. He had finished 11th 4 times in the past including 2 direct
bubbles and one off the bubble once. So happy to see him bust that cash cherry.
The
finishers were: Mike Menkes ($1,000), Guy Bottin ($1,000), Bob Deforest ($560, non-league), Mike Twitchell ($400C), Ramiro Dominguez ($310), Shane Krvrgnas ($250), Mike Bigelow ($190), Scott Brynen ($140), Andrew Creed ($100), David Malik ($100,
non-league), Richard Wardroper (rebuy), Dylan Ruocco, Ryan McDonald, Chris Fraser, Andrew Krywaniuk, Chris Nishi, Darren Kennedy (rebuy), Brian
Taylor, Byron Williams (non-league), Dana Miller (non-league, playing for Nick
Simon), Paul Deol, Roman Pereyaslavsky,
Ed Sue (non-league, playing for Robert Brechin.
December 22, 2015: Chris
Fraser wins Event #6
Chris
Fraser, Mike Menkes and Cory Breland
chopped up the money and then Chris went on to outlast Mike Menkes
headsup to take the 10,000 points and the title. A
relatively massive field of 85 players considering the event was held just one
week prior to Xmas. Usually the December event is considerably smaller in
turnout due to it’s proximity to the holidays but I
guess this year people were all about the cards.
The
finishers were: Chris Fraser ($860), Cory Breland
($860, non-league), Mike Menkes ($860), Dave Sims
($410), Rick Rohrback ($310), Ed Sue ($250,
non-league, playing for Jeff Scott), Niko Bourassa-Wright ($200, rebuy), Robert
Brechin ($140, rebuy), Rob Sims ($100), Hal Fellingham ($100), Mike Twitchell,
Scott Brynen, Barry Stanford (non-league, playing for
Stan Zatylny), Ray Rohrback,
Bruce McCallum, Ramiro Dominguez, Brian Taylor, Shane Kvrgnjas,
Mike Farnese, Kai Picard (non-league), Jesse Williams (non-league), Mike Mittermuller, Mark Juvelin.
November 28, 2015: Tyler Marples takes down Event #6
Tyler
Marples comes off the donut column in a big way with
the 10,000 points for the win as he outlasted non-league member Ryan Appleton in
headsup play.
The
finishers were: Tyler Marples ($1,070), Ryan Appleton
($800, non-league), Jamil Jutha ($550, non-league),

November 8, 2015: Scott Brynen with Record Tying 4th Win
Scott
Brynen worked a short stack for much of the later levels
of the night but ultimately was able to accumulate the chips when needed after
navigating through a field of 74 players. Paul Young got it in good headsup with A9 vs A6 but Scott would runout the straight
to lock up the victory. Earlier the cash was chopped 4 ways between Scott,
Paul, Steve Tamboline and Jamil Jutha.
Earlier
in the night there were some dramatic hands as Dylan began with some massive rungood flopping a set of jacks vs
John Forsythes set of 6’s to get a very early double
up. Unlike the last few events however it was not enough and Dylan would fall
well short of the points. Another hand resulted with a flop of Q98sss with one
player holding QQ, one 88 and another JTss. Amazingly
no one busted on that hand. Late in the tourney nearing the critical stages
with 29 players remaining and the average stack about 26k. Johnny Dai had his
Aces cracked by Bill Robins QT for what was a massive 90k pot when Bill flopped
top 2 pair. Bill also was unable to turn that chipstack
into a cash, but he was able to make some decent points. TJ Johnston was a big
stack down to two tables and lost a massive flip holding AQ vs KJhh on a Q96hhx flop when a 3h hit the river to send a
massive 140k pot to Steve Tamboline and KO Garry Juvelin.
With
every table having the new neoprene pokerhoody felts
it felt great to be rid of the old felts. They seemed to be a great fit for us.
The
finishers were: Scott Brynen ($640), Paul Young
($640, non-league playing for Melissa White), Steve Tamboline
($640), Jamil Jutha ($640, non-league), Jason Nadeau
($300), Darren Kennedy ($250), Rob Sims ($200), Shawn Ali ($150), Bruce
McCallum ($100), Mike Honeyman ($100), Bill Robins,
Ryan McDonald, Brian Taylor, Elton Ngan, Brent Senko, Mark Juvelin,
Grant Willis (non-league), TJ Johnston, Garry Juvelin,
Mike Farnese.
October 28, 2015: Ben
Walker wins Event #3 after 4 way chop
Event
#3 came down to 4 players who chopped marking the second time this year we have
had multiway chops. Ben ($690), Dylan Ruocco ($690),
Paul Deol ($950) and Mark Scott ($800) agreed to a
deal and then Ben and Dylan played to see who got the 10,000 points which Ben
ultimately won giving him his second DHPL title.
The
new pokerhoody felts were a big success and as such I
will be buying more for the next event.
The
finishers were: Ben Walker ($690), Dylan Ruocco
($690), Paul Deol ($950, rebuy), Mark Scott ($800,
non-league), Mike Mittermuller ($350, rebuy), Chris
Nishi ($270), Robert Brechin ($200), Hal Fellingham ($150), Blake Vailes
($100), Andrew Creed ($100), Mike Honeyman ($100),
Tony Macedo, Darcy Woodward, Garry Juvelin, Kai Picard (playing for John Forsythe), Lance
Murdoch, Guy Bottin, Roman Pereyaslavsky,
Nick Simon, Lyle Wingert, Mike Twitchell
(rebuy), Ryan McDonald, Bruce Lawson, Dave Sims.
September 27, 2015: Garry Juvelin takes Event #2 over Jon Pingol
Event
#2 came and went and we had an excellent turnout with 90 entries. And for the
first time we had our longtime waitress Leanne join us at the poker table.
Garry Juvelin and Jon Pingol
got heads up and made a deal where they each got $1000 and played for the extra
$90. While we didn’t have a 5 way chop this event we did have something unique
with Mike Bigelow going out on one table while Dan Molatore
and Steve Tamboline busted at the same time on the
other table. The result was them chopping 2000, 1500, 1500 points meaning they
received 1,700 points each. That has only happened once or twice in the past.
The
finishers were: Garry Juvelin ($1,090), Jon Pingol ($1,000), Dean Hilts ($600, rebuy), Brian Taylor
($440, rebuy), Shane Kvrgnjas ($350, rebuy), Brent
Senko ($270), Dylan Ruocco ($200, rebuy), Rick Rohrback ($150), Steve McLarty ($100), Nick Simon ($100),
TJ Johnston ($100), Mike Bigelow, Dan Molatore, Steve
Tamboline, Scott Brynen,
Kelli Cera (non-league), Johnny Dai, Melissa White,
Ryan Appleton (non-league), Kent Senko (rebuy), Eric Ruttan,
Thanh Nguyen (non-league), Keith Matsalla
(non-league), Roger Grosset, Mike Twitchell,
Robert Brechin, Mike Felhauer.
September 13, 2015: Eiten Even wins Event #1 with unheard of 5 way chop
The
first event of the year resulted in 5 players fairly even and agreeing to a 5
way chop where Roman Pereyaslavsky took $700, while
Jason Nadeau, Eiten Even, Dylan Ruocco
and Shaun Ali each pocketed $600.
It
was good to get the Die Hard league running again. We started the day off with
13 golfers playing the Coyote Creek course. Dan Molatore
woud take the KP on hole #3 and John Forsythe the
longest drive with a bomb on #13. Moving the competitions inside we had 80
entries into the poker. Lots of battling and a final table that just would not
bust a player. IT took 45 minutes of 10 handed play before we lost our first FT
player.
The
finishers were: Eiten Even ($600), Shaun Ali ($600),
Jason Nadeau ($600), Dylan Ruocco ($600), Roman Pereyaslavsky ($700, rebuy), Magus Beales
($250, non-league), Mike Twitchell ($200), TJ
Johnston ($150), Elton Ngan ($100), Mike Menkes
($100), Ramior Dominguez, Mike Felhauer,
Nick Simon, Darren Kennedy, Bruce McCallum, Hal Fellingham,
Mike Bigelow, Garry Juvelin, Ryan McDonald, Brant
