LEAGUE
FINAL Friday, April 10 2015 WSOP $10,000 Main Event and 2015
WSOP NLH $1000 or $1500 Event Rio in Las Vegas |
League members should all be
paid up and thus require only $50 for this event ($50 cash), and non-league
members need to bring $60.
June 16, 2014: More WSOP Updates
The
league is now a combined 0-9 in WSOP events this summer as Colin Genge on
Saturday ($1500) and Sunday ($1000) busted out and Andrew Krywaniuk also on
Sunday ($1000) did not make it thru to the money.
We’ve
used $8000 of our $22000 in buyins so far, with 4 events remaining including of
course Mike Mittermullers Main Event entry. Remaining players left to try their
shot include: Andrew Creed $1000 on June 22, Jeff Scott and Mike Felhauer both
$1500 on June 26 and then Mike Mittermuller for the Main Event.
June 12, 2014: Back in Vancouver and No cashes for
DHPL Yet
I am back in Vancouver as of June 11. So far we have
had Chris Nishi, Johnny Dai, Colin Genge, Nick Simon and Tyler Marples enter
events for the DHPL. So far we are a combined 0-5. Let’s hope for better luck
going forward as Andrew Krywaniuk is next up the Sunday followed by Colin Genge
playing a s second event and Andrew Creed the following Sunday. Jeff Scott,
Mike Felhauer and Mike Mittermuller will round them out.
Our league members did have some success as Brant
Taylor cashed in the Millionaire Maker in 483rd spot for $4,630.
Brant also cashed two daily deepstacks and the Venetian Seniors event. 4 cashes
in I believe 8 events played is a pretty nice ratio.
I myself cashed in WSOP Event #9 for $1972. But
considering I played 5 WSOP events, it was not exactly a profitable trip.
May 31, 2014: Good Luck Johnny and Chris!
A quick note that both Chris Nishi and Johnny Dai
are playing in the $1500 NLH Millionaire Maker tomorrow as the first of our league
winners begin their quests for ATBC (All That Beautiful Cash). I will update
you as best I can. I am not in Vegas until Sunday though so it’s a remote
update.
Good luck guys.
April 30, 2014: Who Will Be in Vegas When?

April 30, 2014: Congrats to Mike Mittermuller for
Winning WSOP Main Event Seat
My apologies for the late
write-up but I get there eventually. The league Final was a top notch tourney
and resulted in some amazing play, horrendous suck-outs, a few massive coolers
and some amazing lay-downs.
The tournament started with
Johnny Dai, Tyler Marples and Colin Genge amassing big stacks early and all 3
of them riding it to the final two tables.
Early on there were quick
casualties as the shortstacks tried to get something going. We had 56 starters
with Kai Picard not showing. By the end of Level 4 we had lost 11 players and
by end of Level 7 we were already down to just 30 players. At that point the
bigstacks in order were: Andrew Krywaniuk (51,400), Mike Mittermuller (43,600),
Johnny Dai (41,000), Dave Sims (37,900), Nick Simon (37,300) and Scott Brynen
(36,600).
With about 14 players remaining
a critical hand occurred. On a flop of 882ss Mike was in BB and bet 8k leaving
20k behind. Colin from the SB check-raised Mike all in and Mike laid down TT.
Colin had 87o in the hand and had Mike called there it would likely had been
his tournament.
Colin also made a big laydown
when holding AQ on a 3 bet preflop pot saw a AJ4 board come down. He bet and
was check-raised. He tank folded and was shown JJ for a flopped set by I
believe Jeff Scott. My point here is that although you need aggression and some
decent cards, those that are able to make the big laydowns are often the ones
who win these kind of tournaments. Both of those laydowns were pro-level folds.
We would continue at a much
slower pace but as we reached the bubble we had 3 very short stacks with Rob
Sims, Dave Sims, Andrew Creed and Brent Senko all well below 6 BBs. Tyler
Marples would bust in a big pot and Brent would also fall leaving us with 11
players and 2 off of the money. Rob Sims would lose a 70/30 all in preflop and
that would combine us to one table. We were on the direct bubble and Dave Sims
and Andrew Creed were eyeing each others micro stacks. In the end Dave Sims
could not last as his KQ went down to AK of Colin Genge and the bubble burst.
The two bubble boys were the two Sims brothers.
As is usual at this stage,
the bust outs occurred quickly. Both Andrews Creed and Krwaniuk busted in short
order and then a massive cooler occurred. Colin Genge who was already chip
leader picked up AA against Johnny’s KK and held KO-ing Johnny and his big
stack out of the tournament and giving Colin about 60% of the chips in play
with 7 left. Colin would continue KO-ing players and eventually ended up Heads
Up against Mike Mittermuller with a 2 to 1 chip lead.
The Heads up battle lasted a
good hour and a half with multiple chip leads and the short stack surviving all
ins on 8 separate occasions. A key hand occurred when Colin holding a 2.5 to 1
chip lead got it all in holding Q7 vs Mikes 89 on a Q7T6 board. The river
bricked and Mike took the lead. On the final hand Mike Mittermuller’s A7
survived aipf versus Colins JT.
Of note:
a. Andrew Krywaniuk has won a seat in each of the last 3
years going 5th, 5th, 7th.
b. We had 4 players who joined for the first time this
year get seats (Johnny, Chris, Nick and Andrew C)
c. Johnny joined later than anyone ever, Event 4, and
still won a packge.
d. Miek Felhauer made a great run and looked to be a
threat to repeat as our Main Event WSOP rep, but ultimately finished 5th.
The full list of winners
includes:
1. Mike Mittermuller ($10,000 ME Seat, $800 Cash)
2. Colin Genge ($2,500 WSOP Buy-ins, $600 Cash)
3. Jeff Scott ($1,500 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
4. Chris Nishi ($1,500 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
5. Mike Felhauer ($1,500 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
6. Nick Simon ($1,000 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
7. Johnny Dai ($1,000 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
8. Andrew Krywaniuk ($1,000 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
9. Andrew Creed ($1,000 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
12. Tyler Marples ($1,000 WSOP Buy-ins, $500 cash)
March 24, 2014: Bigelow Chip Stack Corrected
I made a mistake on Mike
Bigelows chip stack for the Final. It has been corrected from 9,500 to 11,000.
March 24, 2014: Mike Felhauer wins, Tyler Marples
Locks up WSOP Seat
This event was a whole lotta
crazy and very fun to behold. Going into the night there were 4 people alive in
the race to catch Tyler for the points lead and with 4 tables remaining only
Paul had fallen and the rest all had chips. Mike Honeyman would drop out, and
when Colin Genge busted in 24th it left only Dave Sims who would need to win
the event and have Tyler finish outside the top 10. But Tyler was not going to
leave anything to chance. He steamrolled his way to the final table and amassed
a massive chipstack before losing a monstrous pot to Mike Felhauer with 9
remaining. More on that shortly. Tyler is now guaranteed a seat at the WSOP
Congrats Tyler!!
Mike Felhauer was on fire
this night. I watched him win hand after hand after hand while getting it in
behind. He took me out aipf with AJ > KK, he KO’d multiple guys spiking two
pair and flushes on the river, he got it all in pair under pair twice for
massive pot s and spiked the set. But none was more crazy and important than
this pot: with 9 people remaining and Mike Mittermuller already all in for 90k
on the turn of Q323, Mike Felhauer and Tyler battled for a massive side pot
getting 140k each in on the turn. Mike Felhauer held 44 and Tyler 88. Both were
crushed by Mike Mittermullers KQ but there was the matter of a large 280k side
pot. Mike Felhauer’s tournamentlooked to be over, but wouldn’t you know it, he
spiked one of two 4’s remaining on the river to take the pot, eliminating Mike
Mittermuller in 9th in the process. For those that played with Mike
F that night you know he was just on fire and it was not a surprise he ended up
winning it. Now can he go back to back and win the League Final again?
A 26 person last longer was
chopped 3 ways with Mike Felhauer taking $600 and Tyler Marples and Bobby
Gagnon taking $350 each.

non-league, playing for Howard Holt), TJ Johnston ($150), Mike Mittermuller
($100), Brent Senko ($100), Kyle Pendree, Todd Brenneis (non-league), Bruce
Lawson, Dave Sims, Darcy Woodward (non-league), Ed Sue (non-league, playing for

February 28, 2014: Prizes Updates
We had 56 fully paid league members
this year plus some partial league fees paid by people who quit and $1,020 left
over from Mike Menkes WSOP cash last year meaning we have just over $30,400 CDN
in the bank. I just bought $22,000 USD which cost us $24,992 CDN, leaving us
about $5,400 CDN in cash prizes. As such the prizes this year will be as
follows:
1st: $10,000 WSOP Main Event + $800 cash
2nd: $2,500 WSOP + $600
cash
3rd-5th: $1,500 WSOP + $500 cash
6th-10th: $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
So basic differencs from last
year is that 2nd place only gets $2,500 worth of buyins instead of
$3,000 but does get an extra $100 in cash and as well the 11th prize
was taken away. That is the price of losing about $3k in exchange costs this
year due to a weaker Canadian dollar.
Remember that if the league
winner (likely Tyler Marples at this point) does not finish in the top 10 at
the League Final he gets awarded the 10th prize and at that point we
only pay the top 9.
February 28, 2014: Everett Wicklund Wins Event #9
With 78 individual players and
12 rebuys for 90 buyins, this was the biggest prize pool we’ve ever had. We
paid out 11 differenct people meaning for the first time ever you did not even
have to make the final table to get paid at this DHPL Event. A 3 way deal
chopping up the money between Everett Wicklund, Mike Mittermuller and Woodward
occurred before Everett and Mike squared off headsup for the title and the
10,000 points. The battle lasted for a while before eventually Everett finished
off Mike. Earlier Richard Wardroper made the points meaning that with one event
to go every single paid up league member has had at least one top 18 finish and
qualified for the league final. Tyler Marples grabbed another 2,000 points to
buffer his lead in the points race for the guaranteed seat. With one event
remaining only Tyler, Paul Deol, Mike Honeyman, Colin Genge and Dave Sims
remain eligible for the prize. And Tyler is in the drivers seat with Paul
needing a Top 4 finish, Mike needing a Top 3, Colin a Top 2 and Dave Sims a
first to unseed him. And that’s only if Tyler fails to point himself. He’s
pointed in 6 of 8 events he’s played this year and even his spare pointed for
him.
The finishers were: Everett
Wicklund ($870), Mike Mittermuller ($860), Darcy Woodward ($870, non-league),
Roger Grosset ($440), Chris Nishi ($350), Barry William ($270, non-league),
Darren Kennedy ($220), Rob Sims ($170), Bruce McCallum ($150), Tyler Marples
($100), Lance Murdoch ($100), Andrew Krywaniuk, Chris Buss (non-league), Mario
Baptista, Paul Laza (non-league), Jeff Callaghan (non-league), Kal Kaleem
(non-league), Albert Mui (non-league), Ben Walker, Mike Honeyman, Rod Smith
(non-league , playing for Chris fraser), TJ Johnston, Richard Wardroper, Mike
Twitchell, Jeff Scott.
February 8, 2014: Doug Crone and Paul Deol Chop Heads
Up in Event #8
Doug Crone dominated his
initial table and carried it all the way to heads up against Paul Deol who
chopped the victory and Paul took the 10,000 points, his second 10,000 point of
the year. Paul now moves up to second place, just behind Tyler Marples who was
able to add another 1,000 points to his league leading 25,500 points. Congrats
to Mark Juvelin who got his first points (2,500) of the year leaving just
Richard Wardroper without points.
The finishers were: Doug
Crone ($875, non-league), Paul Deol ($875), Andrew Krywaniuk ($450), Jeff Scott
($350), Lance Murdoch ($250), TJ Johnston ($200), Roger Grosset ($150), Mark
Juvelin ($100), Grant Willis ($100, non-league), Darcy Woodward (non-league),
Mike Farnese, David Slater, Joe Aracrelli, Todd Brenneis, Mike Bigelow, Ramiro
Dominguez, Rob Sims (rebuy), Darren Kennedy, Bob Deforest, Eric Chong, Tyler
Marples, Jason Nadeau (rebuy), Ben Walker (rebuy), Chris Fraser, Howard Holt,
Larry Williams (rebuy), Mo Pannun, Brent Senko.
February 6, 2014: Mike Honeyman wins Event #7, Andrew
Creed Takes 10,000 Points
Mike Honeyman won his second
event of the season outlasting Mike Felhauer and a couple of Andrews to claim
first place money. He did not receive any points however as he was on a rebuy.
Andrew Creed finished in 2nd and took the 10,000 points. Andrew was
one of 4 players who got their first points of the year in this event along
with Andrew Krywaniuk, Jeff Scott and Mike Farnese.
The finishers were: Mike
Honeyman ($1,000, rebuy), Andrew Creed ($650), Mike Felhauer ($450), Andrew
Krywaniuk ($350), Rob Sims ($250), Jeff Scott ($200), Johnny Dai ($150), Jason
Nadeau ($100), Bruce McCallum ($100), Paul Deol, Kyle Pendree (rebuy), Mike
Menkes, John Forsythe, Ben Walker, Grant Willis (non-league), Jeff Callaghan
(non-league, playing for Dave Sims), Nick Simon, Eric Chong, Kent Senko, Kal
Kooner, Mike Farnese.
January 10, 2014: Dean Hilts Wins Event #6
A long time player in the
DHPL, Dean Hilts notched his first win holding off Tyler Marples heads-up to
notch the win. We had a huge turnout of 84 buy-ins thanks to a larger than
normal turnout of spares which was much appreciated and bloated first prize to
$1220. It was more of the same for a few players as Dave Sims, Colin Genge and
Tyler Marples continued their collective domination of the points this year.
Dave Sims $410 4th
place finish was also notable in that it vaulted him ahead of Darren Kennedy in
the All Time Cash Earned standings. Congrats Dave.
The finishers were: Dean
Hilts ($1,220), Tyler Marples ($810), Jindy Sarai ($560, non-league), Dave Sims
($410), Colin Genge ($310), Jay Petersson ($250, non-league playing for Brent
Senko), Mike Twitchell ($200), Rob Sims ($150), Cory Breland ($100, non-league
playing for Kent Senko), Shawn Lange ($100, non-league), Imran Bagg
(non-league), Dylan Ruocco, Dana Miller (non-league playing for Nick Simon),
Mike Bigelow, Gerald Samborski, TJ Johnston, David Slater (non-league), Renn
Mahi (non-league), Mario Baptista, Rick Rohrback, Chris Fraser, Darren Kennedy,
Trevor Massey, Johnny Dai, Howard Holt.
December 17, 2013: Anyone Want to Share Their
Pokerstars IDs?
First off Happy Birthday to
me! I turn the big 41 today.
Secondly I was playing a 40
person $55 4 Max No Limit Holdem tourney on Sunday night and got down to the
final two tables when I noticed a big stacked ‘tmass13’ from Canada at my
table. I thought to myself: I wonder if this is Trevor. I asked him if he had
heard of the DHPL in the chat window and sure enough he had and it was Trevor.
We went on to finish 1st (me) and 3rd (Trevor) in the
tourney for a nice profit. This got me wondering how many other guys from our
league I have been playing against not knowing their screen names. So if you
are willing to share your screen names I would love to share them around for
all to see so we can say hi to each other online. My screen name is
‘uglyhead2’.
December 8, 2013: Johnny Dai Wins Event #5
A huge congrats to Johnny Dai
who joined the league in Event #4 and won the 3rd DHPL event he ever
played to take the $1050 and the 10,000 points. This appeared to be Johhny’s
night right from the get go as he built a stack quickly and then mercilessy
attacked his opponents all night long until getting heads up with Rick
Rohrback. No money deal was made as Johnny had the massive chip lead and won it
outright.
Other notes from the night
included Mike Honeyman somehow not getting points for the first time this year.
I may need to recount the finishers as this seems bizarre. Tyler Marples moved
into second place with his 3rd place finish and is now within
striking distance of Mike Honeyman for first.
We also only had 4
non-leaguers playing and they all acted as subs. There were 10 rebuys on the
night including myself and only one of those, Mike Felhauer, made it to payday.
The cash game was rolling along again and I really feel like 4 levels (1hr,
20m) of re-entry is the sweet spot. Hopefully I will have the tournament clock
working again for next event as that was a bit of a bummer. And for the first
time in about 3 years we had NO ONE walk out on their bar tab. For that I thank
you.
The finishers were: Johnny
Dai ($1050), Rick Rohrback ($650), Tyler Marples ($450), Brent Senko ($350),
Brant Taylor ($250), Guy Bottin ($200), Mike Felhauer ($150, rebuy), Dylan
Ruocco ($100), Dave Sims ($100), Eric Ruttan, Ramiro Dominguez, Everett
Wicklund, Rob Sims, Garry Juvelin, Darren Kennedy (rebuy), Jason Nadeau, Bruce
Lawson, Paul Deol, Howard Holt, Ben Walker (rebuy), Trevor Massey.
December 3, 2013: Mike Honeyman Takes Event #4
Mike Honeyman pointed for the
4th time in 4 events and this time he did it by winning it after
making a 3 way deal with Mike Bigelow and Scott Brynen. The win resulted in
Honeyman passing Colin Genge to take over first spot in the standings. Mike
Bigelow continues to impress and has solidified his spot as the best player to
have never won a DHPL event. A spot I held myself until last year.
The finishers were: Mike
Honeyman ($760), Mike Bigelow ($700), Scott Brynen ($600), Peter Jensen
(non-league, $340), Ben Walker ($250), Ray Rohrback ($200), Garry Juvelin
($150), Jamie Hucul ($100), Roger Grosset ($100), Trevor Massey, Ramiro
Dominguez, Eric Chong, Dylan Ruocco, TJ Johnston, Bob Deforest, Howard Holt, Ed
Sue (non-league, playing for Brant Taylor), Grant Willis (non-league, playing
for Kai Picard), Everett (rebuy), Dana Miller (non-league, playing for John
Forsythe).
October 21, 2013: Kal Kooner Gets 2nd Win,
But No Points. Nick Simon Takes the 10k Points
Kal Kooner used the most of
his re-entry taking down the tournament after busting originally in 68th
of 81. Jason Nadeau also made good on his re-entry finishing in 7th
place. We ended up with 16 re-entries to take the total entries to 81 and
allowing us to pay 10 places for the first time in nearly two years.
But it’s not just about the
money. Nick Simon happily took second place and the 10,000 points. Colin Genge
would capture 5,000 points and take over the season points lead. And we have 4
players who have got points in each of the first 3 events: Mike Honeyman, Tyler
Marples, Chris Fraser and Dave Sims, though only Dave and Chris have done it
themselves in each event.
The finishers were: Kal
Kooner ($1150, re-entry, no points), Nick Simon ($750), Eric Chong ($550),
Tyler Marples ($400), Colin Genge ($300), Everett Wicklund ($250), Jason Nadeau
($200), Kyle Pendree ($150), Dylan Ruocco ($100), Dave Sims ($100), Brad Davies

October 10, 2013: Paul Deol Wins Event #2 after 3-Way
Money Chop
This was the first ever DHPL tourney
that allowed a single re-entry for anyone that bust in the first 2 hours (6
levels). It was a controversial decision to go ahead with it and the results
were 15 re-entries from 61 participants adding $750 to the prize pool. I do
believe it changed the play a little early in the night as I saw a couple
looser than normal all ins. However we didn’t see the absolute craziness some
feared and for the most part the tourney played out in much the same fashion as
most of our others. Only one player who rebought made the money (Don Thrasher,
8th for $150) and only one other of them made the final two tables
(Guy who went out 16th). There was some increased workload on my
part but I am willing to try it again for Event #3. I will possibly be looking
into changing the rebuy period to just 1 hour (3 levels) if the workload is
still problematic.
Back to the poker, I don’t
remember too much of the night due to taking so long to write this, but I do
recall Jason Nadeau having a massive stack early along with Dean Somerville. I
also recall a double Bruce domination at the Final Table early on.
The in-the-point finishers
included: Paul Deol ($790), Bruce McCallum ($790), John Stylli ($790,
non-league), Chris Fraser ($380), Bruce Lawson ($300), Chris Nishi ($250), Scott
Brynen ($200), Don Thrasher ($150, non-league), Dean Somerville ($100,
non-league, playing for Mike Honeyman), Mike Mittermuller, Tyler Marples, Jason
Nadeau, Ashley Samborski, Rick Rohrback, Mike Menkes, Guy Bottin (rebuy, no
points), Dave Sims, Mo Pannun, Mike Farnese (rebuy, no points), Lance Murdoch,
Nick Simon.
September 13, 2013: Colin Genges Wins his 2nd
DHPL Bracelet in Event #1
Here we go again. Another
year begins and the chase for the money is in full effect. Colin Genges went
wire-to-wire having the chiplead after the first hour and never really
relinquished it until heads up play began and he and newcomer Mike Honeyman
went back and forth before making an even chop of $800 each for the money. The
next 3 finishers were a who’s who of DHPL history all 3 of which are in the top
4 leaders in cash earned. Dave Sims was 3rd, Darren Kennedy 4th,
Guy Bottin 5th.
We started this first ever
Saturday DHPL Tourney with 16 players hitting the golf course. Mike Farnese won
the longest drive with an approximately 260 yd drive on hole #13 and John
Forsythe won the KP on hole #3. Both players won $25 for their feats.
Once we got to the poker we
had 60 players for the night and 58 players signed up as league members. Colin
won a big hand early with 99 beating QQ and AK to gather some early chips. At
the final table a massive pot occurred between Colin and John Forsythe when 7-handed John turned a
Jack-high flush and happily got it all in with Colin who had the nut flush.
The in-the-point finishers
included: Colin Genges ($800), Mike Honeyman ($800), Dave Sims ($430), Darren
Kennedy ($300), Guy Bottin ($220), Kyle Pendree ($150), John Forsythe ($100),
Jody Nedelak ($100, non-league playing for Tyler Marples), Rob Holmberg (non-league
playing for Elton Ngan), Gerald Samborski, Mike Felhauer, Mike Bigelow, Kal
Kooner, Chris Fraser, Paul Deol, Ben Walker, TJ Johnston, Garry Juvelin.

Well the WSOP has ended and we had one member, Mike Menkes who cashed
nicely in a $1500 LO8 tourney. We are ready to start preparing for the next
season. I am extremely excited this year as I am moving to South Surrey near
White Rock in about 2 weeks and will not have that god awful 2 hour commute to
poker nights anymore.
There are several things to discuss for the upcoming season:
1) Any changes to the way we are running the league? If you have any
suggestions, please send them in and lets discuss them. I have talked to
several people and one change that has been requested time and again is to
give points to the top 18 instead of just the top 15. I have no problem with
that and would suggest the following:
1. 10,000
2. 8,000
3. 6,500
4. 5,000
5. 4,000
6. 3,000
7. 2,500
8. 2,000
9. 1,500
10. 1,500
11. 1,500
12. 1,000
13. 1,000
14. 1,000
15. 500
16. 500
17. 500
18. 500
Are there any other changes you would like to see implemented??
2) Event #1 will be on SATURDAY, September 7. We will be setting up golf
for those that are interested earlier in the day, followed by a dinner at the
clubhouse before we get into the poker tourney which for this one day we will
start at 6pm instead of the regular 7pm start time. I think this would be a
great time to get to know each other a little better away from the poker table.
So if you are interested in the golf portion please let me know as I will need
to get numbers a little closer to the date to set this all up.
3) Event Dates for the season.
The following dates are the proposed dates for this coming year:
#1 Sept 7, (6pm)
#2 Sept 20
#3 Oct 18
#4 Nov 15
#5 Dec 6
#6 Jan 10
#7 Jan 24
#8 Feb 7
#9 Feb 28
#10 Mar 21
FINAL Apr 11
Please take a good solid look at these proposed dates and let me know if
there are any major concerns with any of them. In particular make sure the
League Final is good since you need to show up for yourself for that one.
4) If you know you are coming back for sure, send me an email and let me
know so I can start getting numbers figured out.
Welcome back to the Die Hard Poker League! This will be our 9th Season
