Rule changes and change requests. If you have any other rule change requests please send them to me via email and I will compile them and consider them.
Rule Changes Being considered:
1. I had previously said I would remove the option for one substitute this year and make it no subs at all. I am still leaning towards doing so in spite of the fact I myself will miss at least two events. If you are passionate about this change please email me and explain why it is so important to keep it.
Rule Changes 100% being implemented:
1. The tournament entry for the cash portion of the tournies will be increased to $100 entry fee. This is double what we have been doing in the past, but I have wanted to increase it for awhile and a lot of people have requested this move. That combined with the sheer volume in players we have I think means this will be a good move.
2. New league members will be required to pay the full $500 USD league fee at first event. The bulk of the players that drop out are first time members. To prevent this we will force all league members to pay up in full at the first event.
3. I will collect a list of all new members planning to join and we will give out league spots in a lottery as it is clear we will be well over 100 league members. If you are a potential new league member send me your name and I will start a list. Two weeks from now I will stop the list and send out a list of who has been tentatively accepted. This also means if you played last year you are guaranteed a spot but must let me know to be sure I hold the spot for you.
Please note I am in the Netherlands for the rest of the summer (until August 29th) so I prefer to communicate by email.
That is it for now
July 17th,
2018: $200 Buyin Summer Special 7pm Friday, July 20
With everyone back from Vegas by the end of the week it is time for some summer Die Hard Poker! Lets do a $200 Buyin! We have had some great WSOP successes to talk about with cashes by Roger Grosset, Nick Simon, Chris Nishi and Jesse Spencer. To go along with that we had our first ever league cash in the Main Event by Guy Bottin. I myself was also fortunate enough to cash in the Main as well to go along with 2 other PLO bracelet cashes for the summer.
This event is open to anyone and everyone. There will be up to 2 rebuys allowed for those busting out in the first 4 levels (20 minute levels). Format is same as a regular Die Hard tourney.
If you plan to come out please let me know ahead of time. Just reply to this email. Also let all your friends know. This will be the only summer event for Die Hard as I will be away in Europe for the rest of the summer. So if you are looking for your poker fix this is it.

March 5, 2018: League
Final Prizes Announced. Awarding 13 WSOP Prizes.
The following are the prizes we will all be fighting for at the League Final. As you all know we will be starting with whatever chips you have earned over the year plus the 1,000 chip bonus. Note that the average chip-stack for the League Final will be just under 6,700 chips. We are starting at noon on Saturday April 7 for the Final.
Final Prizes (all USD):
13. $10,000 WSOP ME Seat + $800 cash
14. $10,000 WSOP ME Seat + $800 cash
15. $4,000 WSOP + $500 cash
16. $3,000 WSOP + $500 cash
17. $2,000 WSOP + $500 cash
18. $1,500 WSOP + $500 cash
19. $1,500 WSOP + $500 cash
20. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
21. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
22. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
23. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
24. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
25. $1,000 WSOP + $500 cash
The point leader at the end of Event #10 is guaranteed a prize at the final no matter where he (there is no 'she' that can win) finishes in the final. We have 9 people with a shot at winning and I will group them into 4 categories:
The Front Runner:
6-5 Brant Taylor 24,000 - all 8 players behind him need at least a top 4 finish to pass him. He is in great shape to take the title. And if he gets even 1,000 points that forces them to get top 3 and 4 people would have no shot. If you are going to bet on anyone here, Brant is your man.
The Contenders: (all 3 need minimum a top 4 finish)
15-1 Buddy Lane 20,000 - this DHPL sophomore needs 5000 points to pass Brant as 4,000 would put him in a tie and he would lose on the first tiebreaker which is points personally earned. So a top 4 finish is required.
15-1 Jesse Spencer 20,000 - this DHPL rookie also needs 5000 points to pass Brant as 4,000 would put him in a tie and he would lose on the first tiebreaker which is points personally earned. So a top 4 finish is required.
20-1 Zack Page 19,000 = Although Zack has 1,000 less points, he also needs a top 4 combined with $450 earned to catch Brant due to having earned all the points on his own. The $450 can be an issue however as 5th place received only $400 in 8 of the 9 events this year and $450 in the other one, which means he likely needs top 4 in points with no rebuy or non-leaguers finishing ahead of him. A tall task. Better aim for 3rd in points.
The Long Shots: (these guys need to win and have the 4 above not point significantly)
100-1 Tyler Marples 15,500
100-1 Georg Jancev 15,000
100-1 Jeff Hall 15,000
100-1 Mark McKinney 15,000
The Hail Mary:
1000-1 Jordan Kroeker not only needs to win the event and have Brant blank, but also all the others not finish in top 4 AND win $1,400 doing so which will require at least 108 entries for the final something that has only happened twice this year. Vegas is giving 1000-to-1 odds here.
Trevor Massey can tie Brant but would lose the tiebreaker due to earning points from a spare.
February 24, 2018:
Paul Deol wins Event #9, Becomes first 5 times Winner of a DHPL Event, Brant
Taylor Takes Over Points Lead
On a day when the snow was falling hard and a couple people had even asked me to cancel the event we still had 103 entries showing once again that people love their tournament poker. In a year that seems to be dominated primarily by relative newcomers to our league, Event #5 was a throwback to the veterans, with 8 of the Final 9 players consisting of players that have played more than 60 DHPL events. Paul Deol who is the All-Time leader in cash earned, extended that lead by beating Trevor Massey headsup and his 5th all-time win, breaking an 8-way tie for most career wins.
Brant Taylor again went deep securing enough points to move into first place with a 4,000 point lead over his two nearest competitors. This gives Brant a stranglehold on that coveted guaranteed seat. My calculations have him at over 82% to win the league points battle.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t do a small of bragging to say I locked up 4,000 points myself and Roger also got points to show you guys that just because we are busy running the tournament doesn’t mean we don’t know our way around the players side of the poker felt.
In-the-point finishers included: Paul Deol ($1,100), Trevor Massey ($1,100), Tyler Marples ($700), Brant Taylor ($550), David Slater ($400, non-league), Darren Kennedy ($300), Brad Wilson ($200, non-league, playing for Wade Antoniuk), Jason Nadeau ($150, non-league, playing for Buddy Lane), Colin Genge ($150), Tosca Lueks ($150, rebuy), Robert Brechin ($100), Johnny Dai ($100), Zoranco Jancev ($100, non-league), Richard Wardroper, Eric Ruttan, Roger Grosset, Peter Singh (non-league), Chris McDonell, Stan Zatylny, Deepak Bhasin, Mike Taylor, Guy Bottin
January 27, 2018: New
Record 122 Entries! Jeff Hall Wins Event #8 over Kal Kooner, Jesse Spencer
Takes Over Points Lead
Jeff Hall beats Kal Kooner heads-up for the win and the much needed 10,000 points in an event that shattered our record entries with 122 buyins. We paid 15 places this event.
In the battle for points lead, Jesse Spencer obtained just enough points (1,500) to pass Zack Page and sit atop the standings. And Johnny Dai does something a little unique. He showed up to play but instead of playing for himself used a sub (Faisal Khan) for his attempt at points. The poker gods rebelled and Faisal would fall short of the points and Johnny himself went out 15th which would have been good for 1,500 points. Most importantly though, by exposing this little loophole we now have a the “Johnny Dai” rule for next season. If you are playing in the tournament, you need to play for yourself!
In-the-point finishers included: Jeff Hall ($1,500), Kal Kooner ($1,050, rebuy), Heather Reid ($750, non-league), Rik Rohrback ($600), Mike Mittermuller ($450), Tosca Lueks ($300), Ivan Mahood ($200), Mike Borton ($200, non-league), Trevor Massey ($150, rebuy), Nick Simon ($150), Dan Cassidy ($125), Ray Rohrback ($125), Jesse Spencer ($100), Christina Armstrong ($100), Johnny Dai ($100), Marko Pocedic, Jamie Hucul, Alyssa Weber, Jordan Kroeker (rebuy), Shawn Lange (non-league), James Tichenor, Andrew Creed, Brent Senko (rebuy), Wade Antoniuk, Brant Taylor, Darren Kennedy, Nikola Mitevski (non-league), Bob Deforest (rebuy), Dave Sims.
January 13, 2018:
Jordan Kroeker Wins Event #7 beating Troy Vink. 108 Entries
Jordan booked his first DHPL win beating non-league member Troy Vink who has consecutive top 3 finishes by finishing second in this event and third in event #6. Glad he’s not a league member. There was a 3-way chop of the money as Georg Jancev actually won the most money even though he went out in 3rd place. No change at the top of the standings as Zack Page remains the leader.
In-the-point finishers included: Jordan Kroeker ($1,000), Troy Vink ($1,000, non-league), Georg Jancev ($1,100), Jim Prime ($550), Brant Taylor ($400), Eric Ruttan ($300), Kelli Cera ($200), Jamie Hucul ($150), Allan Foster ($150), Mike Bigelow ($150), Rik Rohrback ($100, rebuy), Ramiro Dominguez ($100), James Tichenor ($100), Dave Collier (non-league, playing for Trevor Massey), Chris McDonell, Stan Zatylny, Don Thrasher (non-league), Brent Senko, Jeff Roberts, Tosca Lueks.
December 18, 2017:
Events 5 and 6 Standings are updated
All time stats to be updated later this week
December 16, 2017:
Brant Taylor Locks up 3rd Career Win in Event #6 Beating Kal Kooner

Finally Updating
My apologies for the lack of updates this year. I am slowly getting everything in order. The Standings page should now be fully updated. I have sent all of the results in to Hendon Mob’s database and they have posted all of the results. In addition, I have a few quick writeups from the first 4 events below.
I have still not updated the All Time Leaders page. Expect that to be done in the next few days.

on the Standings page.
August 24, 2017:
Event #1 Happens this Saturday at 6pm
Hi everyone. I am looking
forward to starting up the league on Saturday. As always, its exciting to kick
off the season. There are a few changes so please pay attention. Everything you
need to know about the 13th edition of the Die Hard Poker League!
1. It starts on Saturday at 6pm!
Please be there to buyin no later than 5:30pm. I will be ready to
accept buyins at 5pm. I will not accept buyins after 5:50pm until the
tournament has started. I don't care if you are in a line prior to 5:50pm, if I
haven't accepted your money by 5:50pm you will wait until after the event
starts.
2. WE ARE FULL. I mean REALLY FULL.
100 league members. Anyone expecting to just show up and play as either a drop
in or to join the league will likely not be able to play. If you are wanting to
drop in please send me an email and I will let you know your chances.
3. League members must pay AT
LEAST $150 USD of their league fees on Saturday or they will lose their spot in
the league. This goes for those that can't make it as well. If I don't receive
money from you locking up your spot on Saturday, you lose it. You can etransfer
or paypal to me ahead of time if you prefer. If you choose to do that the
email address is darrenkennedydk@gmail.com
So to be clear for the entire
year your league fees are $500 USD. $150 USD is payable on Saturday. In lieu of
USD I will accept $200 CAD for league fees. There is also the $50
buyin for the nights tournament. I am always happy if you can pay the
whole $500 USD up front as it makes it easier on administration for the rest of
the year.
4. Lets get ready to play some
poker!
August 24, 2017:
League Start Info
We have 99
interested people for the league at this time. Please note that your spot is
only guaranteed if you show up at the first event and pay $150 USD (or $200
CAD) towards your league fees. ($50 USD or $70 CAD will be league fees each
Event). If you don't pay at Event #1 your spot will go to the next person on
the waitlist. If you know you will be missing the first event, please arrange
for someone to pay your fees for you.
I prefer USD over
CAD since any CAD I get I will need to exchange. I also would greatly
appreciate those that can pay the full $500 USD up front as that means I am
carrying less cash on any given night during the season.
For those asking
I have not set up any golf tee times. If someone would like to step up and
organize that, I would appreciate it. It would have to occur at a different
course as they are booked with a Gescan function.
And finally, if
you know anyone still wanting to join please have them email me ASAP. Let your
friends know that is it EXTREMELY unlikely that just showing up for Event #1
without emailing ahead of time will get you into the league.
August 24, 2017:
Rules Update – Only ONE SUB
This year rule changes are as follows:
a. This season you will be
allowed only one substitute. This is a compromise, but this will only be for
one year. Next year there will be no substitutes at all. I feel that giving
everyone 1000 points to start, guaranteeing that they get to play in the Final
should make up for any perceived loss in having substitutes.
b. For league winners that win
money in the WSOP, the first $5000 USD of the prize is kept by the league
winner. The League will get one-third of anything won above $5000. In this way,
the league will still be able to participate in any truly big wins, but the
winner can reap higher rewards from min-cashes.

August 15, 2017: Only
TWO SPOTS remain officially open
We are literally down to our final 2 open spots for the league this season. We wo have 3 uncofirmed returning players, so if any of those are not coming back then we may have a couple of more spots open up. At this time I am taking one more name and then will be creating a wait list for anyone else interested. We typically have 4-5 people who say they are interested that don’t show so there will still likely be some spots open.
Once again, we cannot play golf as Gescan has a tourney running that day.
